The Best Homemade Ice Cream at Canton First Monday Trade Days

July 2020

Texas Tradition

It's no secret that Texas summers are hot. A Texas tradition is to cool off with a batch of real homemade ice cream. I can remember as kid going down to a neighbors house during the sweltering summers to make peach ice cream. We'd all take turns on the old hand-cranked ice cream maker and play with the rock salt.

These days plenty of commercial ice cream makers use the "homemade" label. But, there's a discernible difference between the commercial stuff and the real deal. Real homemade ice cream has that personal touch and you can taste the love in the ingredients and care that was used to make it.

Canton First Monday Trade Days & Ice Cream

Canton First Monday Trade Days is a great place to find antiques, cottage craft items, custom leather goods, and handmade furniture among other things. Ice cream is no exception. You may even be able to find one of those old hand-crank ice cream makers somewhere at Trade Days. And who knows, it could even come with an old fashioned family recipe taped to the outside. You never know just what you might find.

Here are several homemade ice cream vendors can that help you cool off during your summer visit to Canton First Monday Trade Days:

  • Annie B's Homemade Ice Cream
    • Inside the air conditioned Canton Marketplace
    • The proceeds of their ice cream sales support the Beckville National Honor Society.
    • Banana is an extremely popular flavor.
    • They have BBQ too!

  • Original Homemade Ice Cream
    • At the end of the 4500 Pavilion.
    • The peach ice cream here has been mentioned in a couple of articles about Canton First Monday Trade Days.

  • Taylor's Homemade Ice Cream
    • Can be found at the North end of the Arbors off Dealers Row.
    • Family run since 1972. That's quite a history.

  • Turner's Homemade Ice Cream
    • 401 N Trade Days Blvd.
    • Started in 1988 with one flavor: vanilla. They've since added others as customers requested.
    • Just about famous . . . and they have other stuff in their country store.

What About the Other Guys?

We realize that you can't mention ice cream in Texas without also talking about Blue Bell. So, if you need to get your Blue Bell fix while visiting Canton, head over to the Dairy Palace. They offer hand-dipped Blue Bell along with Henry's, another Texas ice cream maker.

So who has the BEST homemade ice cream? That's a tough call to make and the only way to find out is to visit Canton First Monday Trade Days and decide for yourself.
